Dhaka, Dec 21 (V7N)- Bangladesh has strongly rejected India’s press note regarding the attempted attack on the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, Foreign Affairs Adviser Towhid Hossain said on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the adviser expressed hope that such an incident would not be repeated in the future.

“The Bangladesh mission is located deep inside the diplomatic zone. It is not on the outskirts or at the entrance of the area. How could around 25 members of an extremist organization reach that far? This indicates that they were allowed to come,” he said.

Towhid Hossain noted that the protesters did not merely demonstrate over the killing of a Hindu citizen in Bangladesh but raised several other provocative issues. “I do not have concrete evidence that the High Commissioner was threatened with death, but we have heard reports of such threats,” he added.

The adviser emphasized that the individual killed was a Bangladeshi citizen, and Bangladesh has already taken action in the matter. “Some people have already been arrested. Raising questions about minority security on this issue is unnecessary. Such incidents occur not only in Bangladesh but across countries in the region,” he said.

When asked whether the security of Bangladeshi diplomats should be enhanced, Towhid Hossain said, “If necessary, it will be done. This was not just a matter of slogan-chanting. Families live inside the mission premises, and they were terrified. Therefore, it is India’s responsibility to ensure adequate security.”
