Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N)- The interim government on Friday called for preventing all forms of mass violence carried out by isolated and extremist groups, strongly condemning acts of violence, intimidation, arson, and destruction of property across the country.
In a statement issued Friday afternoon, the government said the country is passing through a critical phase in its history, marked by an ongoing democratic transformation. It warned that this transition must not be derailed by forces that seek to benefit from chaos and instability.
The statement noted that parliamentary elections and the upcoming referendum are not merely political events but “sacred national commitments.” It emphasized that Sharif Osman Hadi, who was martyred while striving to realize this democratic vision, symbolizes the nation’s collective hope for a peaceful and just future.
“To honor his sacrifice and memory, the nation must uphold restraint, responsibility, and a firm rejection of hatred,” the statement said.
Earlier, on Thursday night, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, in his address to the nation, pledged swift justice for the killing of Hadi and urged citizens to remain patient and calm. He also announced a one-day national mourning on Saturday in remembrance of the martyr.
The interim government’s statement also condemned the recent beating of a Hindu man in Mymensingh, calling the incident unacceptable and stating that such acts of violence have no place in the vision of a new Bangladesh. The government vowed that those responsible for the attack would not be spared.
Calling for unity and civic responsibility, the government urged all citizens to honor martyr Hadi by rejecting violence, incitement, and hatred, and by standing firmly against extremism during this sensitive period for the nation.
