Dhaka, December 17 (V7N) — Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday said fraud by brokers has become a major obstacle to exporting manpower abroad and stressed the need to protect migrant workers from their exploitation.

He made the remarks while speaking at a program held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium to mark International Migrants Day and National Expatriates Day–2025.

Dr. Yunus said no system would function properly unless brokers were removed from the process. “The whole world is surrounded by brokers, but the government is far from it. The government does not have the power to enter this network,” he said.

He noted that several countries, particularly in the Middle East, have complained that documents of Bangladeshi migrant workers are often invalid or forged. As a result, he said, many countries have stopped recruiting labor from Bangladesh.

Highlighting the global demand for labor, the Chief Adviser said while some countries grow rich through oil resources, the world is currently facing a shortage of youth. “Our country is a mine of youth. This resource is more valuable than gold,” he said.

He emphasized that Bangladesh’s young workforce must not be neglected or treated as disposable. “They must be utilized properly. The whole world has to come to us—there is no other country with such a vast pool of young people,” Dr. Yunus added.
