Dhaka, Dec 15 (V7N) — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasiruddin on Monday said that incidents of murder occurring occasionally should be viewed as isolated events, asserting that such incidents do not indicate an overall deterioration in law and order.

He made the remarks after inaugurating the Youth Voter Program in Gulshan, Dhaka.

“Sometimes there are two or three murders. We consider these to be isolated incidents,” the CEC said, questioning claims of worsening law and order.

Referring to past political violence, Nasiruddin cited the killings of Awami League leader Ahsanullah Master and former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, noting that similar incidents have occurred in Bangladesh before.

“Such incidents have happened earlier as well. It is nothing new in the country,” he said.

The CEC expressed confidence that the upcoming national elections will be held by removing all fears, emphasizing that the Election Commission is taking necessary steps to ensure a secure voting environment.

Highlighting the significance of the upcoming polls, he said that for the first time in the country’s history, the national parliamentary election and a referendum will be held on the same day.

He also noted that postal ballots have been introduced this time, calling the election a historic milestone for Bangladesh’s democratic process.

Nasiruddin added that clear instructions have been given to law enforcement agencies to maintain a sound law and order situation throughout the election period and on polling day.
