Dhaka, Nov 06 (V7N)- Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the Chief Advisor of the interim government, has stated that journalists who fear mobs are "accomplices of fascism," emphasizing that the current government has not harassed anyone through DGFI or NSI.

He made the remarks at a round table meeting organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS) at the CIRDAP auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday (November 6).

Shafiqul Alam claimed that journalists were able to work relatively impartially during the interim government, unlike during the Awami League era, when they faced severe oppression and harassment.

He added, "We have worked on the issue of security of journalists in the last 15 months. But the question still remains whether the political government will actually survive or not."

Highlighting the challenge of misinformation, he said, "1,000 fake news stories have been spread about St. Martin's taking over. Rumors have been spread about Mylostine. Social media is now the biggest challenge for the government. Our capacity is very limited, we do not have the necessary tools and systems to catch or counter false news."

Shafiqul Alam stressed the importance of delivering accurate information alongside advancing Bangladesh's economy, saying it is vital for maintaining the country's democratic strength.
