Dhaka, Nov 05 (V7N) — Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has announced his resignation from office and his intention to contest in the upcoming national elections.
He made the announcement at a press conference held in the conference room of the Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday (November 5) afternoon.
Speaking to reporters, Asaduzzaman said he has sought BNP’s nomination from the Jhenaidah-1 constituency.
In a strongly worded statement, the outgoing Attorney General criticized the abolition of the caretaker government system, calling the verdict that annulled it “a political judgment made to benefit a particular party.”
He further alleged that since the abolition of the caretaker government, the people of Bangladesh have been deprived of their right to vote freely. “If the caretaker government is restored, it will be a historic verdict,” he added.
Md. Asaduzzaman also argued that any provision introduced to protect people’s voting rights and strengthen democracy cannot be considered contrary to the basic structure of the Constitution.
