Dhaka, Sep 24 (V7N) – About 100,000 army personnel will be deployed in the field during the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday. He spoke to reporters at the Secretariat.
The Home Affairs Advisor said preparations by law enforcement agencies for the elections are progressing well and training has already started. “We have increased personnel deployment. The army, navy, and air force will all participate this time. Currently, around 30,000 army personnel are on duty, and this number will rise to 100,000 during the elections,” he said.
In addition to the armed forces, the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar, Coast Guard, and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will also participate, supported by the administrative machinery. However, he emphasized that the elections’ success will ultimately depend on the people and the consensus among political parties.
The advisor also spoke about security preparations, stating that the police have successfully recovered a significant number of illegal weapons, though some remain, particularly in the Chittagong region. “More weapons will be recovered before the elections,” he assured.
Regarding the upcoming Durga Puja, he said the festival will be peaceful and that all efforts are being made to protect its sanctity.
On the issue of banned organizations attempting processions, he said legal action is underway against participants, many of whom are out on bail and continue to act unlawfully. The government is considering measures to restrict easy bail for such individuals.
