Dhaka, Sep 19 (V7N) – Bangladesh has been re-elected to the Administrative Council (CA) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for a second consecutive term, securing its place among the 10 council members.

In the elections held in Dubai on Thursday, Bangladesh received 97 out of 157 votes, placing ninth. The Principal Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, congratulated the delegation on the achievement, according to a statement from his Press Wing on Friday.

During its previous term, Bangladesh’s participation was limited—attending only one in-person meeting in November 2021 and joining the rest virtually. This raised concerns about whether the country could secure re-election.

However, strong diplomatic efforts led to a successful outcome. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the UAE, Tarek Ahmed, described the result as a “diplomatic success.”
