Dhaka, Sep 10 (V7N) – The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has seized a bank locker belonging to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Motijheel branch of Pubali Bank, officials confirmed Wednesday.
CIC Director General Ahsan Habib said locker number 128, located at the Sena Kalyan Bhaban branch, was sealed in an operation conducted earlier in the day. According to banking protocols, one key to the locker was held by Sheikh Hasina, while the other was in the possession of the bank.
During the operation, revenue intelligence officers also seized fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) worth Tk 12 lakh registered under Sheikh Hasina’s name, and another Tk 44 lakh in a joint FDR with her sister Sheikh Rehana, Habib said.
The move follows a previous NBR directive sent to 65 banks nationwide, seeking detailed information on financial assets, lockers, and accounts linked to Sheikh Hasina and her family. Several banks subsequently reported back, leading CIC investigators to identify the Pubali Bank locker.
Officials suspect the locker may contain confidential files, important documents, and jewelry, though its contents are yet to be disclosed.
