Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – Cultural Affairs Adviser and noted filmmaker Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui has described the ongoing Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections as the beginning of a broader democratic process, likening it to boarding an “election train.”
In a post from his verified Facebook account on Tuesday morning, Farooqui wrote: “Bangladesh has boarded the election train through DUCSU. The national election train will come after that. Happy Election Day to everyone!”
Reflecting on voting practices in Bangladesh, he remarked, “Why is the vote that can be done at night kept until the day? Not doing the work on time is the biggest weakness of this nation.”
Farooqui’s post also carried sharp political criticism, referencing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and past political crises, while connecting the DUCSU polls to the country’s larger electoral climate.
The DUCSU and Hall Parliament elections, being held in 810 booths across 8 centers, are being viewed as a symbolic prelude to upcoming national elections. Voting runs from 8 am to 4 pm, with security forces ensuring tight control across the Dhaka University campus.
