Dhaka, Sep 08 (V7N) – Finance Advisor Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed has stated that Bangladesh requires at least $29 billion per year to effectively manage disasters, but securing even $1–2 billion from the IMF remains difficult.
He made the remarks during the inauguration of the ‘Navigating Climate Finance: Media Reporting Training’ at the PKSF auditorium in Agargaon, jointly organized by PKSF and the Economic Relations Department (ERD).
Dr. Ahmed highlighted the resilience of local communities in responding to disasters but stressed the need for external support. He urged journalists to raise awareness about climate change and educate the public, particularly children, on disaster preparedness.
The session also featured discussions on the insufficient funding from developed countries to mitigate climate damage. Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, noted that Bangladesh ranks ninth globally in disaster risk, with 88 million people affected, yet this remains underreported. He called on the media to play an active role in drawing international attention to the country’s climate vulnerabilities.
