Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N) – Bangladesh and Pakistan on Sunday (August 24) signed one agreement and five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during a high-level foreign ministerial meeting in Dhaka, signaling renewed efforts to improve bilateral relations.

The meeting, which began at around 9:45 am at a city hotel, was led by Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain, along with Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A delegation headed by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar represented Islamabad.

Among the key outcomes of the talks was an agreement on visa abolition for government and diplomatic passport holders of both countries, alongside an MoU to establish a joint working group on trade. Other MoUs covered areas including investment, agriculture, and cooperation in various development sectors.

During the discussions, Bangladesh raised the long-standing issues of Pakistan’s formal apology for the 1971 genocide and the return of resources taken to West Pakistan before the Liberation War. In addition, both sides emphasized the importance of deepening ties in trade, investment, and agriculture, with a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Dhaka on a two-day official visit Saturday afternoon, received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Foreign Ministry Secretary Nazrul Islam. Later that day, he met with leaders of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) at the Pakistan Embassy.

As part of his Dhaka schedule, Ishaq Dar is also expected to visit BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her residence in Gulshan this evening.
