Dhaka, Aug 14 (V7N) – Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed met with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Tracy Ann Jacobson at his Hare Road residence on Thursday afternoon, where they discussed bilateral judicial cooperation, human rights protection, and the rule of law.

According to a press release issued by Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam, the Chief Justice highlighted the initiatives undertaken in the past year to strengthen the judiciary, including a roadmap for judicial reform, 12-point transparency guidelines, a capacity test for legal aid eligibility, the enactment of a law for High Court judge appointments through the Supreme Judicial Appointments Council, and the launch of a Supreme Court helpline for trial seekers. He also detailed measures to enhance the capacity of subordinate courts.

Ambassador Jacobson congratulated Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed on completing one year in office and commended his reforms as timely and effective. She expressed optimism that his leadership would contribute significantly to good governance and justice in Bangladesh, reaffirming US commitment to supporting the independence of the judiciary.
