Dhaka, Aug 14 (V7N) – Religious Affairs Advisor Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain has urged that no physically weak, sick, or unfit individuals be taken to Saudi Arabia for Hajj solely for financial gain.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National Hajj and Umrah Fair 2025 on Thursday, Dr. Hossain emphasized the importance of ensuring that only capable pilgrims undertake the journey.

He announced that Bangladesh will request the Saudi authorities to remove food services from government catering during Hajj and to improve toilet facilities in Muzdalifah. Expressing optimism, he said he hopes the smooth Hajj management seen in 2025 will continue in 2026.

The advisor also stressed ongoing efforts to eliminate middlemen from the Hajj process and confirmed that representatives from regional hubs will be present in airfare negotiations for Hajj flights.

Highlighting cultural sensitivities, Dr. Hossain reminded that zarda is classified as a drug in Saudi Arabia and that the use of zarda or cigarettes tarnishes the country’s image. He strongly discouraged pilgrims from carrying such items.
