Dhaka, July 30 (V7N) – A high-level meeting to review Bangladesh’s preparedness for graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category was held on Wednesday morning at the Principal Advisor’s office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus.

During the meeting, the Principal Advisor conducted an in-depth review of the potential pressures the graduation may exert on various sectors, including employment, trade, and industry. He emphasized the need for coordinated strategies to mitigate these challenges and ensure a smooth transition.

Key advisors and officials from various ministries attended the meeting, including Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Health and Family Welfare Advisor Nurjahan Begum, Textiles, Jute and Shipping Advisor Retired Brigadier General M Sakhawat Hossain, and Environment and Forest Advisor Rizwana Hasan Chowdhury.

The advisors discussed sector-specific vulnerabilities and stressed on proactive policy adjustments to safeguard economic stability and protect jobs, particularly in export-dependent industries.

The meeting is part of an ongoing series of consultations aimed at ensuring Bangladesh’s readiness as it moves toward LDC graduation, which is expected to be formalized in the coming years.
