Dhaka, July 13 (V7N) – A special combing operation has been launched across the country starting Sunday (July 13) to maintain law and order and ensure stability ahead of the upcoming national elections. Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced this after a meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Committee at the Home Ministry.
Commenting on the recent brutal murder of businessman Lal Chand Sohag in front of Mitford Hospital, the advisor described the incident as “very sad and barbaric,” emphasizing that such acts are unacceptable in a civilized society. Out of the 19 accused in the case, seven have been arrested so far. Authorities are also investigating if any negligence occurred during the initial investigation.
“No matter who the culprit is, no one will be spared based on political affiliation. The law is equal for all,” Jahangir Alam Chowdhury asserted. Preparations are underway to transfer the Mitford murder case to the Speedy Trial Tribunal. Additionally, one arrest has been made recently in another murder case in Khulna.
When asked about emergency responses, the advisor noted that no calls were made to the police’s ‘Triple Nine’ helpline during the Mitford incident, and nearby Ansar members were not informed.
The advisor highlighted that the government is taking necessary measures to tackle the rising tide of crimes including murder, theft, robbery, extortion, violence against women, terrorism, and drug smuggling. The upcoming combing operations will supplement regular law enforcement efforts.
He further stated that the government aims to complete all preparations for the national elections by December 31 and expressed hope that the combing operation will significantly contribute to maintaining law and order during this critical period.
