Dhaka, June 29 (V7N) — Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has announced that July 16 will be observed as 'July Martyr's Day' and August 5 as 'Mass Uprising Day', as decided by the Advisory Council. The government has also withdrawn its earlier decision to mark August 8 as 'New Bangladesh Day'.

In a post from his verified Facebook account on Sunday, Shafiqul Alam confirmed the decision, noting that no day will be observed on August 8.

This development comes just days after the interim government had declared August 8 as 'New Bangladesh Day' to commemorate the formation of the transitional administration led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus following the student-public uprising last Wednesday. That day had been classified as Category 'B' in the Cabinet Division’s list of national and international observances, with instructions for ministries and departments to mark the occasion annually.

The latest decision reflects a shift in focus to July 16 and August 5, dates seen as significant in the context of the recent mass movement.
