Gaza City, August 11 (V7N) — Five journalists from Al Jazeera Arabic were killed in an Israeli airstrike near the main gate of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza on Sunday evening, according to the hospital’s director. Two additional individuals also lost their lives in the same attack.

The journalists were reportedly inside a tent outside the hospital compound when the strike occurred. The deceased have been identified as Anas Al-Sharif (28), a well-known correspondent for Al Jazeera Arabic, fellow correspondent Mohammed Qureiqeh, cameraman Ibrahim Zaher, and crew members Mohammed Nufal and Muamen Aliwa.

Al Jazeera condemned the targeting of its journalists and called for international accountability. The network has repeatedly emphasized the increasing dangers faced by its media personnel in conflict zones, particularly in Gaza, where press freedom and civilian safety continue to be severely threatened.

The Israeli military has not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of reporting.

This attack adds to the growing toll of media workers killed in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, drawing fresh criticism from human rights organizations and press freedom advocates. Calls for independent investigations into attacks on journalists have intensified, with several international bodies urging all parties to uphold protections guaranteed under international humanitarian law.

The situation in Gaza remains volatile, with escalating violence affecting civilians and frontline responders alike, including healthcare workers and journalists.
