Rangamati, August 5 (V7N) - Four suspected members of a banned Chatra Lague were detained late on Monday night, August 4, in the Muslim Block area of Baghaichhari, Rangamati. According to local sources, the group was allegedly holding a secret meeting to plan acts of sabotage in connection with the upcoming "Mass Uprising Day" rally scheduled for August 5.
The detainees—identified as Md. Badol (son of Md. Ali Ahmed), Md. Omar Faruk (son of Md. Masud), Md. Sakib (son of Md. Monir Hossain), and Md. Saddam Hossain (son of Md. Delowar Hossain)—were apprehended by local residents and later handed over to the police. Several others reportedly managed to flee the scene during the operation.
Local sources claim the group of 15 to 20 individuals had been organizing covertly for several months through Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Initially operating under the name "Muslim Block Chatra League," the group later changed its name to "Inshallah." Despite using the name of the ruling party's student wing, local officials describe them as part of a proscribed faction not recognized by the mainstream organization.
Residents say the same group was allegedly involved in arson attacks on homes belonging to Awami League supporters in the area during last year’s political unrest on August 5, when rumors circulated about the government’s collapse.
Baghaichhari police station’s Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Md. Humayun Kabir, confirmed the arrests and said the four were found to be actively planning sabotage. "Their mobile phone conversations and messages on social platforms provided concrete evidence of their intentions," the OC said. He added that legal proceedings are underway, and the detainees will be produced before a court on Tuesday morning.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the group's broader network and activities, while locals remain on alert over concerns of potential political violence linked to the August 5 observances.
