Naypyidaw, July 31 (V7N) – Myanmar's military junta has announced plans to hold national elections in December this year, while simultaneously lifting the long-standing state of emergency.
According to a Reuters report citing state media, the junta has formed an 11-member commission led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to oversee the electoral process. However, a specific date for the elections has not yet been declared.
State broadcaster MRTV reported that Min Aung Hlaing will serve as the country’s interim president during this transitional period and will supervise the election arrangements.
This move marks a significant political shift following the military’s seizure of power in February 2021, which sparked widespread protests and international condemnation.
