BOSTON, March 26 (V7N) — Kylian Mbappe moved to within one goal of France’s all-time scoring record as he netted in a 2–1 victory over Brazil national football team in a high-profile international friendly in the United States on Thursday.

Mbappé opened the scoring in the 30th minute at Gillette Stadium with a composed chipped finish past goalkeeper Ederson. The goal marked his 56th for France national football team, leaving him just one short of the national record held by Olivier Giroud.

Despite being reduced to 10 men early in the second half following the dismissal of Dayot Upamecano, France extended their lead in the 65th minute through Hugo Ekitike.

Brazil, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, pulled one back late in the game as Gleison Bremer scored from close range, but it proved insufficient to deny France the win.

Speaking after the match, Mbappé said the result was encouraging ahead of the upcoming World Cup. “We are creating lots of chances and looking more solid. This will help us prepare,” he said.

The return to scoring form is a positive sign for coach Didier Deschamps, especially after Mbappé’s recent recovery from a knee injury.

France, who won the 2018 World Cup and finished runners-up in 2022, will face Senegal, Norway, and a play-off winner in the group stage of the upcoming tournament.

Brazil, aiming for a record sixth World Cup title, were missing several key players including Alisson Becker and Rodrygo. Ancelotti described himself as “half-satisfied” with the performance, noting that while his team showed fight, improvements are needed.

France will next face Colombia in their ongoing US tour, where Mbappé could equal or surpass the national scoring record.
