Tehran, June 30 (V7N) – Iran has demanded a firm U.S. guarantee that no additional military strikes will be carried out on its territory as a condition for resuming diplomatic talks. This was stated by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, in an interview with the BBC.
Takht-Ravanchi said, “Will there be another attack during the talks? The United States must give a clear answer to this question.” He emphasized that Iran would not compromise on its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, though discussions could be held on the level and capacity of enrichment. “Demanding zero enrichment and bombing if it doesn’t comply is the law of the jungle,” he said.
Since the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal under the Trump administration, Iran has exceeded the agreed limits and is now enriching uranium up to 60 percent purity. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has noted that this stockpile could potentially be further enriched to produce nine nuclear weapons.
The Deputy Foreign Minister criticized European leaders for backing U.S. and Israeli actions, calling their stance “ridiculous” and accusing them of lacking the courage to condemn what he termed discriminatory treatment toward Iran.
Takht-Ravanchi also rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s call for regime change in Iran, stating that such efforts had failed. “Iranians may criticize some of the government’s decisions, but they will stand united in the face of foreign aggression,” he said.
On a regional note, Takht-Ravanchi acknowledged the role of Gulf countries, particularly Qatar, in mediating the current ceasefire and encouraging dialogue.
No date has been set for the resumption of talks, and Iran has reiterated its readiness to confront any further acts of aggression.
