Tehran, June 16 (V7N) – Iran has refused to enter into any ceasefire negotiations as Israeli airstrikes continue to target its territory and assets, according to a senior Iranian official quoted by Reuters on Sunday.

The unnamed official, reportedly familiar with the government’s position, told Reuters that Tehran has no intention of engaging in ceasefire discussions while Israel maintains its “aggressive military campaign.”

“There is no room for dialogue under fire. Iran will not negotiate from a position of weakness,” the source said, underscoring the country’s stance amid escalating tensions.

This latest statement follows a series of mutual air and missile strikes between the two long-time regional adversaries. The conflict, which began with isolated skirmishes, has rapidly evolved into a wider military confrontation, raising alarms across the Middle East.

Regional Tensions Escalating

A report by Reuters noted that the cycle of attacks and counterattacks between Iran and Israel is fueling fears of a broader regional war. The fighting has already resulted in significant casualties, including high-ranking Iranian officials, and has drawn international concern over the potential for escalation beyond bilateral engagement.

Diplomatic channels remain largely frozen, with both nations signaling an unwillingness to de-escalate without preconditions. International observers warn that without a ceasefire or diplomatic breakthrough, the situation could spiral into full-scale regional conflict involving allied non-state actors and neighboring states.

So far, neither the United Nations nor regional peace brokers have made tangible progress toward mediation.
