Tehran, June 16 (V7N) – Iran's state media has officially confirmed that a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Kazemi, along with his deputy Hassan Mohaghegh, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Sunday.
According to reports by Al Jazeera and several Iranian state news agencies, the air raid targeted a secure location believed to be linked to IRGC intelligence operations.
The attack also claimed the life of another high-ranking intelligence official, Mohsen Bagheri, according to Iranian sources.
The loss of Brig. Gen. Kazemi, who served as the head of IRGC Intelligence, marks a major blow to Iran’s security establishment. He was widely regarded as one of the country’s most powerful and secretive intelligence figures, overseeing both domestic surveillance and external counter-espionage.
The Israeli military has not officially commented on the operation, but the strike is being interpreted by analysts as part of Israel’s ongoing efforts to neutralize Iranian influence and operational capability in the region.
Sunday’s attack comes amid a dramatic escalation in hostilities between Iran and Israel, with missile strikes, cyberattacks, and air raids occurring in both directions over the past weeks. This incident is likely to further inflame tensions and may prompt retaliation from Iran or its regional allies.
Security experts warn that the killing of such high-ranking officers could trigger a significant shift in Iran’s strategic response, possibly including covert operations or attacks through allied militia networks.
No independent verification of the strike's location or method has been released as of now. Iranian authorities have vowed to avenge the deaths.
