Dhaka, Dec 20 (V7N) — The suspension was announced on Friday, December 19, through an order signed by Professor Dr. Md. Motahar Hossain Bhuiya, Principal of Enam Medical College. The order states that Dr. Tazin Afroze Shah, a professor in the Department of Medicine, has been temporarily relieved of his duties following objectionable remarks about the late Sharif Osman Hadi on social media. The suspension is effective from December 19, 2025.

The order also directs Dr. Shah to submit a written explanation within seven working days as to why he should not face permanent dismissal. In addition, he has been relieved from his position as Secretary General of the Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF), as stated in a notice signed by BDF Chairman Dr. Md. Shahed Rafi Pavel. The notice cited Dr. Shah’s Facebook posts regarding the late Hadi as unacceptable, warranting temporary suspension.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 in Dhaka and passed away while undergoing treatment in Singapore on December 18. Following his death, a screenshot of allegedly derogatory comments made by Dr. Shah about Hadi on Facebook circulated widely, prompting the disciplinary action.

Dr. Tazin Afroze Shah has claimed that his Facebook account was hacked. In a subsequent post, he stated that the comments were posted without his consent, and he strongly condemned the offensive remarks circulating in his name. He described the allegations as “vile” and expressed regret over the incident.

In his statement, Dr. Shah explained that he had not been very active on Facebook, with his last post being a patriotic song on December 16. He said that unknown users had hacked his account, made disparaging comments about Hadi, and even solicited money using his identity. He emphasized his personal respect for Hadi, describing him as a martyr and a devout individual, and affirmed that he would never have made such comments voluntarily.

Dr. Shah expressed apologies to anyone misled by the posts circulated in his name and clarified that the hacking was beyond his control. He also reassured friends, family, students, and colleagues of his integrity regarding the matter.
