Rangamati, August 8 (V7N) – The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended an Indian national named Mon Chandra Chakma (22) from the border-adjacent Bogakhali market area in Juraichhari Upazila of Rangamati. The arrest took place on the morning of Thursday, (August 70, following a special operation by the BGB patrol team under Bogakhali BOP of the 41st Battalion, based on intelligence reports. The team intercepted Mon Chandra Chakma, who was illegally entering Bangladesh territory with an Indian Aadhaar card.
 
The detainee is the son of Chandra Hanshu Chakma from Chante Longle area in South Ugudasuri, Mizoram, India. Initial interrogation revealed his involvement in smuggling activities, according to the BGB.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Kausar Mehedi, commander of the 41st Battalion, confirmed the operation and emphasized the challenges in securing the remote border areas of the Rangamati sector, including Bogakhali and other border markets. He explained that illegal Indian traders exploit crowded markets to conduct smuggling, drug trafficking, and other criminal activities.
 
The BGB remains committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and preventing smuggling in the border areas. The arrested individual will be handed over to Juraichhari police station for appropriate legal action.
