Dhaka, Aug 02 (V7N) – The open heart surgery of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has been successfully completed at a private hospital in the capital. The operation took place on Saturday (August 2), with the procedure concluding around 12:30 pm.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was taken to the operating theater at 7:00 am, and the complex bypass surgery was led by renowned cardiologist Dr. Jahangir Kabir. Speaking to the media, Dr. Kabir confirmed the success of the operation and stated that Dr. Shafiqur is in stable condition and may be discharged within the next seven days if his recovery continues smoothly.

The Jamaat Ameer had earlier fallen ill following his participation in the party's national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on July 19. Initially suspected to be suffering from dehydration, further medical examinations revealed five blockages in his heart, three of which were deemed critical.

Despite advice from the medical board to seek treatment abroad, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman opted to undergo the procedure in Bangladesh. In his statement, he emphasized that his decision was aimed at restoring public confidence in the country's healthcare system.

Top Jamaat leaders, including the party's Secretary General and Nayebe Ameer, were present at the hospital during the surgery. Party sources have requested prayers from supporters and the public for Dr. Shafiqur Rahman’s swift recovery.
