Rajshahi, July 16 (V7N) – A professional drug trafficker was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 on Monday afternoon at Rajshahi Railway Station while attempting to smuggle heroin using a deceptive method. The arrest took place around 3:45 PM in front of the first-class passenger lounge of the station.
The detainee has been identified as Faharul Islam, 30, a resident of Habajpur in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district.
According to a statement from RAB, the arrest was made following a tip-off. During the operation, RAB seized 73 grams of heroin, a mobile phone, and a SIM card from Faharul’s possession. During initial interrogation, he confessed that he was transporting the heroin with the intention of selling it in Tangail district.
RAB officials stated that Faharul had long been involved in narcotics trafficking and frequently employed creative strategies to transport illegal substances. His methods of concealment were reportedly designed to evade routine checks by law enforcement authorities, especially during inter-district travel.
Following the arrest, a case has been filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act at the Rajshahi Railway Police Station. The seized heroin is believed to have a significant market value, and further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the trafficking network.
Law enforcement sources indicate that RAB is intensifying surveillance at key transport hubs across the region, as drug traffickers increasingly attempt to use public transportation routes to move narcotics under the guise of regular travel.
