Dhaka, July 15 (V7N) – BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the party will work in coordination with the government and the business community to address the recently imposed additional tariffs by the United States, which could significantly affect Bangladesh’s export sector and employment.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with leading business figures at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday afternoon, Khasru said, “If the tariffs on our products are higher than those imposed on India and Vietnam, the impact on our export competitiveness will be severe. This is a national issue, not a political one, and we all must come together to find a solution.”

He emphasized that BNP stands ready to support any necessary diplomatic or economic initiative to resolve the issue. “We will urge the government to take urgent steps for negotiations. Our exporters’ livelihoods and millions of jobs are at stake,” he added.

Khasru further stated that BNP has provided guidance to business leaders and stressed that the window for negotiations remains open. He encouraged the government to intensify diplomatic efforts and engage with U.S. authorities to seek a favorable resolution.

Business leaders attending the meeting reportedly echoed the call for stronger and more proactive negotiations, warning of potential losses in export earnings if the matter is not resolved swiftly.
