Dhaka, July 30 (V7N) – Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow at the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), emphasized the need for the interim government to start contemplating its exit, during a Democracy Days Bangladesh seminar held on Wednesday afternoon at a hotel in Gulshan.

Bhattacharya stressed that it is important to consider how much legitimacy the interim government’s actions will confer on the next government. He also urged that ongoing reforms should be pursued as comprehensively as possible rather than being left incomplete.

At the same event, journalist and political analyst Masud Kamal criticized the government for allegedly using the excuse of reforms to delay elections. He expressed his view that the national election should be held in October and remarked that while the Proportional Representation (PR) system has merits, the current timing is not appropriate for its implementation.
