Dhaka, July 05 (V7N) — Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has said that individuals convicted by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will not be allowed to participate in elections in Bangladesh.

He made this statement at a debate titled "What Needs to Be Done to Implement the Spirit of the July Movement", held on Saturday (July 5).

The Attorney General emphasized that even those associated with the Awami League could be brought under the law if found guilty of crimes against humanity. He noted that despite political differences, all parties are united against crimes committed by the Awami League, and the party itself could be subject to trial as an organization if evidence supports such action.

Addressing recent incidents of mob action, Md. Asaduzzaman said, “This is not a reflection of distrust in the judiciary, but an outburst of anger accumulated over the past 17 years. However, such anger should not translate into inappropriate actions.”

Recalling the martyrs of the July Uprising, he said, “Abu Said and the martyrs of July did not belong to any political party. They represented the voice of citizens rising against dictatorship.”

The Attorney General stressed that the core objective of the July Revolution was to establish good governance and justice in Bangladesh.
