Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N) — Akhtar Hossain, member secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP) and newly elected MP from Rangpur-4, has called on the BNP-led government to provide full logistical support for the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) and ensure that its trials are not slowed down or obstructed.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the ICT on Thursday, Akhtar emphasized the importance of timely justice. “Our main duty is to implement the reforms of Bangladesh and make the trial effective,” he said.

Key Points from Akhtar Hossain

  • The government must avoid vacillation on reforms that could impact the ICT.

  • Public support in favor of constitutional reforms should guide government actions.

  • Regarding the July massacre case, Akhtar noted that verdicts in three cases remain unimplemented. Convicted and absconding accused, including former political leaders, must be brought back to face justice.

  • He stressed that ensuring accountability for past crimes is a primary responsibility of the elected government.

Akhtar’s statements underscore the continued public expectation for justice in major historical cases and the need for government commitment to uphold the rule of law.
