Tangail, July 28 (V7N) — Zonayed Saki, Chief Coordinator of the Ganosanhati Andolan , stated on Sunday that the people of Bangladesh have been engaged in a long struggle to remove authoritarian rulers since 2011, but have yet to achieve meaningful structural change. He emphasized that this time, the goal must not only be the removal of those in power, but the dismantling of the entire fascist system.
Speaking at a local rally organized by the Tangail district branch of his party, held at the Central Shaheed Minar in the town, Saki warned that if this effort fails, it could be the last time the public participates in such a struggle.
“Since 2011, people have been fighting for the end of despotic rule,” he said. “We have seen leaders removed in the past, but the underlying system of governance remained untouched. This time, we must change the system itself. If we fail, the people may lose faith in the movement altogether.”
Saki recalled that public discontent had been building steadily for years and reached a boiling point when the Awami League government, under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, abolished the caretaker government provision through a constitutional amendment in 2011. “That amendment made it clear they were laying the foundation for a fascist regime,” he stated.
The caretaker government system, previously a key demand of the opposition and civil society groups, was intended to ensure fair and neutral elections. Its removal sparked widespread protests and accusations that the ruling party aimed to entrench itself in power through controlled electoral processes.
Saki’s comments come amid renewed political tensions and calls for electoral reforms in Bangladesh. His party, which has positioned itself as an alternative progressive force, continues to campaign for what it calls genuine democracy, institutional accountability, and a reformation of the country’s political structure.
The rally was attended by local activists and party members who echoed demands for systemic change and pledged continued resistance against authoritarian governance.
