KANTHALIA, February 25, (V7N) — A police sub-inspector was injured in a bizarre and violent encounter in Jhalakathi’s Kanthalia upazila after a suspected drug dealer bit him in a desperate attempt to evade arrest. Despite the assault, the officer managed to apprehend the suspect and recover a stash of illegal narcotics.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 24, in the Chechri Rampur Union. Acting on a secret tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Ratan Chandra Halder conducted a raid near the residence of one "Sohrab Master" in the South Chechri area. During the operation, they intercepted 30-year-old Sujan Hawlader, a known local dealer.

As SI Ratan moved in to secure the suspect, Sujan reportedly lunged at the officer, biting his hand with enough force to cause significant injury. The suspect attempted to use the distraction to flee the scene, but the police team successfully subdued him. Upon searching the suspect, officers recovered eight packets of Yaba tablets hidden on his person.

The suspect, identified as the son of Md. Sobahan Howlader of Chechri Rampur Union, is now in custody. Kanthalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abu Naser Raihan confirmed the details of the arrest, noting that the injured SI received medical attention following the struggle.

OC Raihan further stated that a case is being filed against Sujan Hawlader under the Narcotics Control Act. This incident underscores the increasing risks faced by law enforcement as they intensify their "zero-tolerance" crackdown on the narcotics trade in the coastal districts.
