The event was presided over by Amrit Lal Tripura, President of the Temple Development Committee. The Chief Guest at the inauguration was Jiruna Tripura, Chairman of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council. The festival, organized by the Khagrachhari chapter of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and the Rath Festival Committee of the Sri Sri Radha Banku Bihari Temple, officially commenced with the ceremonial pulling of the chariot’s rope and the release of balloons.

During the inaugural religious assembly, it was emphasized that Rath Yatra—one of the most significant festivals for the Hindu community—has commenced across various parts of the country. Though usually celebrated with grandeur, this year's festivities in Khagrachhari have been scaled down, reflecting a more modest observance. Despite the toned-down celebration, homes across the Hindu community in Khagrachhari have taken on a festive air.

Rath Yatra, rooted in Sanatan Hindu philosophy, is traditionally a symbol of unity and harmony, transcending caste, creed, and class. Regardless of religion or social status, the festival annually brings together people in a shared expression of devotion and festivity. However, this year saw a more subdued atmosphere, lacking the usual joy and exuberance.

Thousands of male and female devotees took part in pulling the decorated chariot, symbolizing their unity and shared devotion. The procession began at Shapla Square and moved along the main road, ending at the central Sri Laxmi Narayan Temple at Chengi Square in the district town.

The reverse chariot journey, or Ulto Rath Yatra, is scheduled to be held on July 9, marking the conclusion of the festival after nine days of spiritual celebrations.

Among the special guests at the event were Ashok Majumder, Member Secretary of the Sanatan Samaj Kalyan Parishad and President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, along with other notable dignitaries.

The entire chariot festival has been orchestrated with devotion and discipline by ISKCON Khagrachhari and the Rath Yatra Organizing Committee, ensuring the preservation of the cultural and spiritual legacy associated with this sacred tradition.
