Jhalakathi, MAY 27 (V7N) – A woman attempted to commit suicide by setting herself on fire inside a courtroom at the Jhalakathi court on Sunday afternoon (May 25th).

According to court sources, the housewife had filed a case on March 17th under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act against Al Amin Howlader of Timirkathi area, Nalchiti upazila, alleging that he had beaten her for demanding dowry. Her husband was subsequently sent to jail in connection with the case.

The bail hearing for her husband was scheduled for Sunday afternoon. During the hearing, the housewife reportedly attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself ablaze in front of her husband in the courtroom. She was subsequently rescued by the police.

Confirming the incident, the housewife's lawyer, Advocate Hossain Akon Khokon, stated that the victim had filed a case against her husband and later lodged a complaint. He added that she attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself on fire because her husband did not want to live with her.
