Pabna, Dec 24 (V7N) — Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested Zahurul Molla, the prime accused in the murder case of BNP leader Biru Molla of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna. Following his arrest, weapons and ammunition were recovered during a raid based on information obtained from the suspect.
The information was disclosed on Tuesday (December 23) during a press briefing held at the Pabna Superintendent of Police’s office auditorium. Additional Superintendent of Police Mashirur Rahman Mondol said Zahurul Molla was initially arrested by RAB in Sirajganj and later handed over to Ishwardi Police Station for further investigation.
He said that after extensive interrogation, police conducted a late-night operation on Monday in Lakshmikunda, the suspect’s home area in Ishwardi upazila. During the operation, police recovered one foreign-made firearm, 26 rounds of revolver ammunition, and five shotgun cartridges.
Zahurul Molla was produced before the court on Tuesday afternoon and sent to jail custody, police said.
According to police records, the murder occurred on December 17 in Kamalpur village of Ishwardi upazila. Biru Molla, 48, was shot dead allegedly by his cousin Zahurul Molla following a dispute over land ownership and local dominance.
The victim, Biru Molla, was the son of Abul Molla of Kamalpur village and served as the convener of the BNP unit in Lakshmikunda Union. Police said the investigation into the killing is ongoing and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
