Barguna, Nov 09 (V7N) — A brutal robbery took place at the home of a woman in Patharghata upazila of Barguna early Saturday, where she was tied up, attacked with sharp weapons, and robbed of valuables worth several lakh taka.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the South Hoglapasha area of Char Duani Union under Ward No. 4. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Shiyuli Khatun, is the widow of the late Mahmudul Hasan Masud.
According to local sources, a group of five to six unidentified robbers broke into Shiyuli’s semi-pucca (partially brick-built) house by cutting through the window grill of the front room. Two of the intruders entered the bedroom, tied her hands and mouth, and struck her on the forehead and head with sharp weapons, leaving her severely injured.
The robbers looted Tk 5,000 to 6,000 in cash and gold ornaments weighing about four bhori, valued at approximately Tk 5 lakh. The stolen jewelry included one pair of bangles, two pairs of earrings, seven rings of varying sizes, and two gold chains.
Before leaving the scene around 4 a.m., the attackers untied Shiyuli’s hands and mouth. Hearing her screams for help, neighbors rushed to the spot and rescued her. She was taken to Patharghata Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Her relative, Dr. Bashir Ahmed, said that Shiyuli’s condition is critical but she is under intensive medical care. Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the incident.
Patharghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mehedi Hasan confirmed the incident, saying that police have already visited the crime scene and necessary legal measures will be taken after receiving a formal complaint.
Locals have expressed concern over the rising number of night-time robberies in the coastal region and urged law enforcement authorities to strengthen security patrols to ensure public safety.
