Cox’s Bazar, Sept 24 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1, 50,000 yaba tablets in separate anti-smuggling drives in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday evening. No arrests were made during the operations, the BGB confirmed in a press release issued Wednesday morning.
According to BGB sources, a special patrol team from Balukhali and Palongkhali border outposts spotted two men entering Bangladesh by boat near Anjumanpara, around 300 yards inside the border from pillar BRM-19. When challenged, one suspect fled back toward Myanmar, while the other abandoned his bag and escaped through paddy fields.
In a separate drive, another special team from Balukhali outpost intercepted two individuals entering Rahmater Beel, about two kilometers south of the outpost. The suspects dropped their bags and a machete before fleeing into Anjumanpara village.
Later searches of the sites uncovered 15 sealed packages wrapped in blue waterproof bags—10 tied in a red cloth and another five hidden inside a fishing basket—containing a total of 1, 50,000 yaba tablets. BGB personnel conducted a combing operation in the area until 4:00 a.m., but the suspected traffickers could not be apprehended.
Confirming the recovery, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, PSC, Commanding Officer of the 64 Ukhiya Battalion, said: “We have intensified intelligence surveillance to identify and arrest those who managed to flee. The seized yaba consignment is being processed for handover to Ukhiya Police Station.”
He further emphasized that BGB remains vigilant not only in border security but also in combating narcotics and smuggling networks, vowing that such operations will continue.
