Dhaka, Feb 19 (V7N) — The government has launched a nationwide initiative to ensure affordable access to protein-rich foods for low-income households during Ramadan, aiming to bring one million families under the program.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku announced the initiative while inaugurating the subsidized sales program at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute in Mohakhali on Thursday.

Program Details

Under the scheme, families will be able to purchase essential protein items at reduced prices throughout the holy month. The sales have initially begun at 25 points across Dhaka, including Uttara, Azimpur, and Mirpur, with plans to expand to districts nationwide.

Subsidized prices include:

  • Eggs: Tk 96 per dozen

  • Milk: Tk 80 per kilogram

  • Meat: Tk 650 per kilogram

Government’s Objective

The state minister said the initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on low-income families during Ramadan while ensuring adequate nutrition. He also expressed optimism that the program would help stabilize market prices of essential commodities.

Officials confirmed the sales campaign will continue throughout Ramadan as part of broader measures to maintain supply and affordability of key food items.
