Manama, Mar 12 (V7N) – Bahrain’s Interior Ministry has arrested four Bahraini citizens on charges of spying for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the government announced on Thursday (March 12).
According to the Interior Ministry, the suspects were involved in photographing sensitive and important installations in Bahrain and collecting their geographical coordinates. Investigations revealed that one of the individuals used high-powered photography equipment under specific organizational instructions and sent the information directly to the IRGC through encrypted software.
The four arrested individuals are aged 22 to 36 years, while another member of the group, aged 25, remains at large outside the country. The names of the arrested individuals have not been disclosed.
The Bahraini government called the arrests a major threat to national sovereignty and security, amid rising regional tensions due to Iran's ongoing military activity and attacks in the Middle East.
