Dhaka, Mar 9 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has issued a show-cause notice to Ashraful Islam, president of its Ramna Thana unit under Dhaka Metropolitan South, for filing a case against Nasir Uddin Patwary, the chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), without prior approval from the party.
Party sources at BNP’s central office said the notice was issued Sunday night (March 8) through a letter signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General.
According to the letter, Ashraful Islam filed the case on his own initiative on Sunday morning without the party’s authorization, thereby violating organizational discipline. The notice asked him to explain within 48 hours why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for breaching party rules. He has been instructed to submit a written response to the party’s central office in Naya Paltan within the stipulated time.
Earlier on Sunday morning, Ashraful Islam submitted an application to the court seeking to file a case against Nasir Uddin Patwary. The complaint alleged that Patwary lost the 13th parliamentary election by a large margin to Mirza Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee member and political adviser to the Prime Minister.
The petition further claimed that during and after the election, Patwary made several false and defamatory remarks about Mirza Abbas. It also alleged that following his electoral defeat, Patwary continued to make threatening and defamatory statements on various social media platforms and online news portals.
Meanwhile, the court of Md. Hasan Shahadat issued a summons asking Nasir Uddin Patwary to appear before the court in connection with a defamation, intimidation and insult case filed over remarks targeting Mirza Abbas.
Plaintiff’s lawyer Amirul Islam said the court recorded the complainant’s statement and subsequently issued the summons.
He added that on March 5, Ashraful Islam saw posts on Facebook in which Patwary allegedly made defamatory comments about Mirza Abbas. The statements were later circulated widely on Facebook and YouTube, damaging Abbas’s reputation.
According to the complaint, Patwary deliberately and repeatedly published false and fabricated statements on social media with the intention of tarnishing Mirza Abbas’s reputation and political career, actions described as defamatory and contrary to norms of civility and public decorum.
