Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a temporary suspension of tourist and work visas for citizens of nine countries, including Bangladesh, effective from January 2026. The restriction will also apply to individuals seeking business entry permits.

The decision, reported by UAEVisaOnline.com on Saturday, did not include an official explanation from the UAE government. However, multiple sources have linked the move to concerns over security, diplomatic tensions, and ongoing public health measures related to Covid-19.

Countries on the Ban List

  • Afghanistan

  • Libya

  • Yemen

  • Somalia

  • Lebanon

  • Bangladesh

  • Cameroon

  • Sudan

  • Uganda

Impact of the Ban

The visa restrictions have already stirred concern among expatriates and businesses:

  • Workers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and several African countries are facing challenges in renewing permits and applying for new jobs.

  • Business and tourism ties between the UAE and the affected nations have weakened.

However, UAE authorities confirmed that residents currently holding valid visas will not be affected and may continue to live and work legally.

Future Outlook

The UAE described the measure as temporary, with the possibility of review depending on security and health assessments. Once lifted, citizens of the affected countries will regain eligibility to apply for:

  • Short-term and long-term tourist visas.

  • Work permits through UAE companies.

  • Visas via the official online portal, embassies, and immigration authorities.

At present, the UAE has not announced a specific timeline for lifting the restrictions.
