Tel Aviv, Aug 26 (V7N) – The Israeli army chief has confirmed that a peace deal to release the remaining hostages in Gaza is now “on the table”, with the decision resting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli media reported.
IDF Chief Lieutenant General Yeal Zamir stated, “The Israeli military has created a situation where an agreement is possible,” adding that it is now the government’s choice to implement it.
On Tuesday (August 19), the Israeli security cabinet presented a new proposal to mediators concerning the Gaza conflict and the release of hostages, which was accepted by Hamas, the Palestinian independence movement. Despite this, Netanyahu reportedly prefers to continue military operations in Gaza.
The Netanyahu government is facing mounting pressure as families of Israeli hostages staged protests, demanding an end to the war and the safe release of their loved ones.
