USA, Aug 09 (V7N)- The United States has increased the reward for information leading to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to $50 million, doubling the previous $25 million set by the Trump administration in January.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the historic increase on Thursday (August 7), accusing Maduro of being the world’s top drug trafficker involved with cartels flooding the US market with cocaine laced with fentanyl. Bondi linked Maduro to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua, the Cartel of the Suns, and Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel.
“He is the world’s top drug trafficker and a threat to our national security,” Bondi said.
In response, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil dismissed the announcement as “the most ridiculous announcement ever,” calling it an attempt to divert attention from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal in the US.
