Dhaka, July 31 (V7N) – The United States government has imposed sanctions on at least six Indian companies for their alleged involvement in trading Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products, according to multiple Indian media reports including The Hindu.

The sanctions are part of a broader move targeting 20 companies worldwide, aimed at cracking down on Iran’s “shadow fleet” and global intermediaries facilitating the transportation of Iranian oil and petrochemicals, the US State Department announced on July 30.

Indian firms sanctioned include Alchemical Solutions, Jupiter Dye Chem, Global Industrial Chemicals, Ramniklal S. Gosalia & Company, Persistent Petrochem, and Kanchan Polymers, as reported by Indian news outlet NDTV. The sanctions block the assets and interests of these companies in the US or any territory controlled by US citizens, extending also to affiliates owned 50 percent or more by them.

This action comes amid escalating US pressure on Iran and is part of the Trump administration’s strategy to enforce sanctions against countries and entities violating restrictions on Iranian oil trade.

In a related development, President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent retaliatory tariff on Indian goods, effective August 1, citing India’s purchase of Russian weapons and fuel as a reason for the punitive measure, although specific details of the punishment were not disclosed.
