Washington, July 26 (V7N) – U.S. President Donald Trump made a sarcastic remark about French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent decision to recognize Palestine, saying the move “doesn’t matter” and will have no effect.
Speaking to reporters on Friday after Macron’s announcement, Trump said, “Emmanuel is a little different. But whatever he says doesn’t matter. Nothing will change in his decision. He is a very good person, I like him a lot. But his statement has no effect. Whatever he says, whatever he does, it is up to him. I have no comment on that. I am with the United States, not France.”
On the issue of Hamas, Trump described the situation as “terrible,” adding, “They have cooperated with everyone and let’s see what happens.”
The comments come shortly after French President Macron’s declaration to recognize Palestine as a state, a move that was followed by nearly 220 UK lawmakers urging British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to do the same. Over half of the signatories in the UK come from nine political parties, including a majority of Labour Party MPs. The letter emphasized the significant international impact such recognition would carry.
