Islamabad, June 21 (V7N) – Pakistan has officially nominated former US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing his diplomatic efforts in de-escalating the recent India-Pakistan crisis.

The proposal was formally announced through the Pakistani government's official social media account (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, according to a report by The Dawn newspaper.

The statement highlighted Trump’s "decisive diplomatic engagement and significant leadership" during a critical moment of heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. It credited his intervention with helping to avert a potential full-scale conflict that could have endangered millions of lives in South Asia.

"President Trump demonstrated strategic foresight and statesmanship by engaging with both Islamabad and New Delhi at a critical juncture," the statement read. "His leadership resulted in a ceasefire that prevented a catastrophic war."

The Pakistani government further acknowledged Trump’s expressed willingness to help resolve the long-standing Jammu and Kashmir dispute — a core issue between India and Pakistan. It emphasized that sustainable peace in the region cannot be achieved without implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The nomination also referenced Trump's recent diplomatic positions on other global crises, including his comments on the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza and rising tensions involving Iran. Pakistan expressed hope that Trump’s efforts would continue to contribute to global peace and stability.

Earlier this week, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir also called for Trump to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in defusing the India-Pakistan standoff.

Meanwhile, Trump, posting on his platform Truth Social, wrote, “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and the deal will happen — just like I made with India and Pakistan.” He added, “I do a lot of things, but I never get credit for the work—but that’s okay, people understand.”
