Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N) – The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has confirmed that four individuals, including two children, died from dengue-related complications within the last 24 hours. The fatalities occurred at three major hospitals in Dhaka—two at Mitford Hospital, one at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and another at Mugda Medical College Hospital.
According to the DGHS Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room, a total of 226 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals during the same period. However, the rate of hospitalization remains a concern across the country, particularly outside the capital’s city corporation zones.
In the last 24 hours, hospital admissions due to dengue were reported as follows:
-
Barishal Division (outside city corporation): 56 patients
-
Chattogram Division (outside city corporation): 57 patients
-
Dhaka Division (outside city corporation): 31 patients
-
Dhaka North City Corporation: 32 patients
-
Dhaka South City Corporation: 68 patients

The ongoing outbreak has proven deadliest during the monsoon months. DGHS data shows that July saw the highest number of fatalities this year with 41 deaths. Up to August 21, 31 additional deaths have been reported. The previous months recorded fatalities as follows: January (10), February (3), April (7), May (3), and June (19). Notably, there were no dengue-related deaths reported in March.
In 2024, the total number of confirmed dengue cases reached 101,214, with 575 deaths between January 1 and December 31.
Public health experts have called for more aggressive mosquito control efforts, timely medical response, and increased public awareness to prevent further escalation of the crisis. The DGHS continues to urge citizens to remain alert and seek medical help at the earliest signs of dengue symptoms, especially during peak transmission months.
