Milan, July 15 (V7N) – In a major move ahead of the new season, AC Milan have officially signed legendary midfielder Luka Modric on a one-year deal, with the option to extend for another year. The 39-year-old Croatian maestro joins the Serie A giants after a decorated 13-year spell at Real Madrid.

The announcement was confirmed by AC Milan on Monday. In a video message shared on Instagram, Modric appeared wearing AC Milan’s new jersey, signaling the start of a fresh chapter in his illustrious career.

According to club sources, Modric has signed a contract until June 2026, though the initial agreement is for one season. The deal includes an extension clause based on performance and mutual agreement.

End of an Era at Real Madrid

Modric’s departure from Real Madrid, the most successful club in European history, was widely anticipated after the team’s disappointing 4-0 defeat to PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals earlier this year. The match marked his final appearance in Madrid colors.

Over 13 seasons with Los Blancos, Modric made 590 appearances and played a pivotal role in the club’s modern dominance. His silverware collection includes:

  • 6 UEFA Champions League titles

  • 4 La Liga titles

  • 5 FIFA Club World Cups

  • 28 trophies in total

He also became the first player since 2007 not named Messi or Ronaldo to win the Ballon d'Or when he earned the honor in 2018, following a historic year that included leading Croatia to the World Cup final.

A New Chapter in Italy

AC Milan, who are currently rebuilding under new leadership and aiming to reclaim their past glory in both domestic and European competitions, will count on Modric’s experience, leadership, and playmaking brilliance to boost their midfield.

Club fans and analysts alike see this as a symbolic and strategic signing — blending veteran wisdom with youthful energy, as Milan gears up for an important season across Serie A and European competition.

Modric is expected to join training with the squad later this week. A formal unveiling at San Siro is also anticipated.
